To work as a licensed CCTV operator you need a recognised qualification linked to SIA Public Space Surveillance licensing. This course covers the knowledge and the practical equipment skills you need for it, across three units taught at our partner centre.
This means you finish with both the theory and the hands-on confidence to work in a live control room.
The centre sits on Stockport Road in Levenshulme, directly on the A6, with frequent buses to Manchester city centre and Stockport and Levenshulme railway station a short walk away. Learners from Longsight, Burnage, Withington, Fallowfield, Didsbury, Gorton, Reddish and Stockport can therefore reach it without travelling into the city centre first.
You sit two multiple-choice exams and a practical assessment at the monitors. Once you pass, you receive the Level 2 qualification and can use it to apply for your SIA Public Space Surveillance (CCTV) licence. Results normally take two to three weeks. Delays at the awarding body can make it longer, so we cannot promise an exact date.
Note that the course does not issue the licence itself. You apply separately to the Security Industry Authority and must meet its other requirements.
Choose a date from the list on this page and pay £50 online to book your place. The course costs £250 in total: £50 deposit to book, £200 at the centre on day one. Your confirmation and joining instructions arrive by email straight away.
Who is this course for? Anyone aged 18 or over with the right to work in the UK. It suits complete beginners, and also Door Supervisors and Security Guards adding a CCTV licence for control room work.
Do I need to attend all three days? Yes. Attendance is recorded and all three days are required to meet the training hours and complete the assessments.
What will I learn during the CCTV course? You will learn about the private security industry, CCTV legislation, operational procedures, communication, emergency procedures and CCTV systems. The course includes practical CCTV equipment training.
What do I need to bring? SIA-accepted photographic ID and two proofs of address issued within the last three months, such as a bank statement or utility bill.
Does this give me an SIA licence? No. It gives you the qualification needed for the application. You apply to the SIA separately.
