Renewing your licence?

Door Supervisors and Security Guards need a refresher to renew

Refresher training has been compulsory since April 2025. Book it four to five months before your licence expires so there is no gap in your work. The SIA lets you renew before your licence expires or up to three years after it expires. You also need ACT certificates before the course, and the ACT training is free online. Our guide to SIA licence renewal explains which course you need.

Questions people ask us

The short answers. There are more on our FAQs page, or call us on 020 8050 4108.

How do I book a course?

Pick a course, a centre and a start date and book online. Most courses need a deposit of £30 to £150, and you pay the balance at the centre on day one. The Emergency First Aid course in London is paid in full when you book. You get a confirmation email with joining instructions straight away.

Do I need any experience to book an SIA course?

No. You need to be 18 or over with the right to work in the UK. The course teaches everything the SIA exams cover, and you take the exams at the centre.

What should I bring on day one?

Photo ID for every course. For an SIA licence course (Door Supervisor, Security Guard, CCTV and the refreshers) bring two proofs of address dated within the last three months as well.

When do I get my certificate?

Results and certificates normally take two to three weeks after the course. We cannot promise an exact date, because the awarding body issues them.

My SIA licence is due for renewal. Which course do I need?

Door Supervisors and Security Guards need a refresher course before they renew. You can take it before your licence expires or up to three years after it expires. You also need free ACT certificates from ProtectUK before the course.

What happens if I fail an exam?

SIA resits are £50 per unit, booked through the centre. Construction tests have no flat resit fee, so ask us and we will tell you what applies.

Not sure which course you need?

Tell us the work you want and we will point you to the right qualification. Lines open Mon to Fri 9am to 6pm, Sat 9am to 5pm.
