Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about booking, paying, changing your date and what happens after your course. For questions about a particular qualification, see the course pages linked at the bottom.

Booking and paying

Does BookCourse run the courses?

No. BookCourse is a booking platform that partners with training centres. You book and pay with us, and we send your joining instructions. The partner centre teaches the course and runs the assessment, and the awarding body issues your qualification.

How do I book a course?

Choose the course and centre you want, pick a start date and pay online to hold your place. You can also call us on 020 8050 4108. We will email you an invoice with a secure payment link, and your place is confirmed once you have paid.

Can I pay over the phone?

No. For your security we never take card details over the phone. If you call to book, we email you a secure payment link instead, for the deposit or for the full fee if your course is paid in full. Companies pay the full amount by invoice. Every booking is paid through our website or a secure payment link.

How much is the deposit?

It depends on the course. Deposits are between £30 and £150, and each course page and the checkout show the exact amount. You pay the balance at the centre on your first morning, before training starts. Our London Emergency First Aid course is the exception and is paid in full when you book.

Is there VAT on top of the price?

No. We are not VAT registered, so the price on the course page is the full price.

Can my employer book and pay for me?

Yes. Companies can book places for their staff and pay the full course fee by invoice, which comes with a secure link to pay online. Email or call us with the course, the centre and the number of people.

Do you offer group bookings?

We do. Tell us how many staff need training and which qualification, and we will suggest dates and send a quote.

Changing or cancelling

Can I change my course date?

Yes. Moving your date is free if you tell us seven days or more before the course starts, subject to availability. With less than seven days to go there is a £100 rescheduling fee.

Can I get my deposit back?

Deposits are non-refundable, but you can transfer yours to another person booking the same course if you let us know before it starts. If you paid more than the deposit, you can ask for a refund within 24 hours of booking, minus a £100 administration fee.

What happens if you cancel my course?

You choose between another date and a full refund of what you have paid. If we need to move your course to a different centre, we will tell you at least 24 hours before it starts.

On the day

What ID do I need to bring?

Bring valid photo ID, such as a passport or UK driving licence, to every course. For SIA courses (door supervisor, security guard and CCTV, including refreshers and bundles), also bring two proofs of address dated within the last three months. Without the right ID you may not be allowed to start, and that counts as non-attendance.

How old do I need to be?

You must be 18 or over for all of our courses.

Do I have to attend every day?

Yes. Full attendance is required to sit the exams, and late arrivals may not be allowed to join. If you might be late, call the office as soon as you can.

I have a health condition. Can you support me?

Usually, yes. Tell us at least 15 working days before your course so we can arrange the right support with the centre.

Are the centres open on bank holidays?

Yes. The training centres are open on bank holidays and close only on Christmas Day.

Refresher courses

Can I book a refresher if my licence has expired?

Yes. The SIA lets you renew before your licence expires or up to three years after it expires, so you can still book a refresher course.

Do I need ACT certificates for a refresher?

Yes. You need ACT certificates before your refresher course starts. The ACT courses are free, and you complete them online on the ProtectUK website. Our ACT training guide, linked below, explains how.

Results and certificates

How long do results take?

Results and certificates normally take two to three weeks after you finish your course. Delays at the awarding bodies can make it longer, so we cannot promise an exact date.

What if I fail an exam?

You can resit. SIA resits cost £50 per unit. Construction resits have no flat fee, as each one has its own price, so ask us for yours. Course fees are not refunded if you do not pass.

Does BookCourse issue my SIA licence?

No. Our partner training centre trains and assesses you, and the awarding body issues your qualification. You then apply for the licence yourself on the SIA website, which runs its own identity and criminal record checks.

I have lost my certificate. Can I get another?

Yes. A replacement certificate costs £50. If a certificate has a mistake that we caused, we correct it free of charge.
