Aldgate sits on the edge of the Square Mile, where security officers guard offices, banks, retail units and building sites. If you work in the City, training here is a short trip from work, and Aldgate East station is seconds from the door. Aldgate is a few minutes away, and Liverpool Street and Whitechapel are a short walk.
The first half of the day is Emergency First Aid: CPR and defibrillators, choking, bleeding and shock. The rest of the day brings you up to date with the SIA's current content for security officers: searching people and property, safeguarding, recognising vulnerability and responding to terror threats. You finish with a multiple choice and practical assessment.
Aim to train four to five months before your licence expires. The SIA lets you apply up to four months early and adds any time left on your old licence, so early renewal costs you nothing. Already expired? You can still book. The SIA lets you renew before your licence expires or up to three years after it expires.
Before the course you need certificates from the free ACT Awareness and ACT Security courses, which you complete on the ProtectUK website. Bring them on the day, along with photo ID and two proofs of address dated in the last three months.
Door supervisors need the two-day Door Supervisor refresher in Aldgate instead, which includes physical intervention. More about the centre is on our Aldgate page.
