CPCS A73 Traffic Marshal Course in London

Traffic marshals keep construction sites moving safely, guiding plant and delivery vehicles through busy work areas where one wrong move can cause serious harm. This CPCS A73 course trains you for that role in two Saturdays: theory on the first, practical training and testing on the second, with home study in between. Pass, and you’ll receive your CPCS Red Trained Operator Card.

Course Content

• The duties and responsibilities of a plant and vehicle marshaller
• Health and safety regulations covering vehicle movements on site
• Types of plant, the risks they create and how traffic management plans control them
• Verbal and non-verbal communication, including hand signals
• Guiding, reversing and positioning vehicles safely

Learning Outcomes

After the course you will be able to:

• Explain a marshaller’s legal and site responsibilities
• Read and follow a site traffic management plan
• Recognise the hazards created by different plant and vehicles
• Communicate clearly with drivers using agreed signals
• Guide vehicles into position safely during live site movements

Entry Requirements

• A CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test passed within the last two years
• Original photo ID on test day: UK driving licence or passport

Duration & Timings

Two training days, one week apart:

• Day 1 (Saturday): Classroom theory and site safety briefing
• Home study (6 days): Structured preparation for your test
• Day 2 (following Saturday): Practical training, theory and live assessment

Assessment

• Theory test: a verbal question-and-answer session with a CPCS accredited tester
• Practical test: a supervised assessment involving real vehicle movements

Certification

Successful candidates receive the CPCS Red Trained Operator Card (A73), valid for two years. The Red Card is the first stage of the CPCS route toward the Blue Competent Operator Card.
