Practise the knowledge for the CPCS A73 Plant and Vehicle Marshaller theory test, with 25 questions on hand signals, radio calls, blind spots, traffic management and the law, and every answer explained.
Our practice format. The real CPCS A73 theory test is spoken, one to one with a CPCS tester.
Each attempt picks a new set of questions from a bank of 60, so you can practise as often as you like.
CDM 2015 says nobody may ride on a construction vehicle except in a safe place provided for that purpose. A side step is not a safe place to ride.
Raise is signalled with the right arm pointing upwards, palm forward, slowly making a circle. The circling movement is what tells it apart from stop.
In L64, move backwards is both arms bent with the palms facing down and the forearms making slow movements away from the body. Palms up with the forearms moving towards the body means move forwards.
Large vehicles and plant have blind spots, often directly behind and close to the sides and front. A person standing in one can be struck without the driver ever seeing them.
Segregation with physical barriers, separate gates and marked walkways stops people and vehicles meeting. Warnings and alarms rely on people noticing them, so they are weaker controls.
Under CDM 2015 the principal contractor plans, manages and monitors the construction phase. That includes the site traffic management plan and the control of vehicle movements.
The vehicle must not move during loading or unloading. It should be on firm, level ground with the parking brake applied, and the engine off and keys removed where site rules require.
Safer site layouts, one-way systems and segregation should remove or reduce the risk first. A marshaller controls the risk that is left, which is why the role is so safety-critical.
The question bank has 60 questions across these topics. Every attempt mixes them at random.
A plant and vehicle marshaller guides drivers and plant operators safely around a site, especially when they reverse or can't see clearly. The theory test checks that you know how to do that without putting yourself or anyone else in danger.
The questions cover:
Because the real theory test is spoken, practise explaining your answers as well as choosing them. After each question in practice mode, say aloud why the right answer is right. It will make the one-to-one theory test feel much more natural.
Plant and Vehicle Marshaller. You may still see it called traffic marshal or banksman, but the current CPCS title is Plant and Vehicle Marshaller (A73).
It is spoken, not written. A CPCS tester asks you questions one to one and records your answers, and it ends with a scenario on site drawings. You need 80% to pass. Our multiple choice questions practise the same knowledge.
Yes. You need to have passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test before you can sit the CPCS theory test.
Using the standard hand signals and a radio to guide a large vehicle, including reversing it through markers, into a bay and up to a structure, with stops along the way.
