Practise the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test you need for a CSCS card. 50 questions in 45 minutes, with the same 90% pass mark as the real test and every answer explained.
Each attempt picks a new set of questions from a bank of 100, so you can practise as often as you like.
All bats and their roosts are protected under the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2017 and the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Disturbing them or damaging a roost without a licence is an offence, so work must stop until an ecologist gives advice.
A stepladder must be fully open, with any locks engaged, on firm and level ground. Never stand it on boxes or pallets to gain height.
Removing hearing protection even for a short time in loud noise greatly cuts the protection it gives over the day. Wear it all the time you are in the noise and ask for a more comfortable type.
A wrongly fitted or unsuitable disc can shatter at high speed. The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 require people who fit abrasive wheels to be trained and competent.
The cause could be toxic gas or a lack of oxygen that would overcome you too. Many confined space deaths are would-be rescuers, so rescue must be done by trained people with the right equipment.
Centre-tapping splits the 110 volts either side of earth, so a shock to earth is limited to about 55 volts. This greatly cuts the risk of a fatal shock compared with 230-volt mains. Battery tools are safer still.
Reversing causes many site vehicle accidents. Where it cannot be avoided, a trained marshaller in a safe position guides the driver, who must stop if they lose sight of the marshaller.
The corrosion pictogram warns that the substance can burn skin and eyes and attack metals. Use the gloves and eye protection set out in the COSHH assessment.
The question bank has 100 questions across these topics. Every attempt mixes them at random.
The test checks that you know how to stay safe and keep others safe on a construction site. It covers five core areas:
Since 2019 the test has been a single section. The questions about how you would behave on site are mixed in with the knowledge questions rather than set as separate case studies, which is why many of our questions are short site scenarios.
At 90%, the CSCS test has the highest pass mark of any test on this site. Five wrong answers and you still pass, but a sixth means a fail. Practise until you pass the full mock test with a few marks to spare, and read the explanation for every question you get wrong.
The CITB Health, Safety and Environment test for operatives has 50 questions and you have 45 minutes.
You need 45 correct out of 50, which is 90%. That means you can only get five questions wrong.
Yes. People call it the CSCS test because you need it for a CSCS card, but its proper name is the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test. Operatives take the operatives version.
Yes. The green labourer card needs the Health, Safety and Environment test and a Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment. You can practise both here.
On a computer, usually at a test centre. Our one-day CSCS card course in London includes the Level 1 health and safety training and the CITB test on the same day, so you can practise here first and sit both together.
Questions last checked: 17 October 2026. These are practice questions written for BookCourse, not the official exam papers.
