SIA Door Supervisor Refresher (Top Up) in Birmingham

The SIA Top Up Refresher Training in Birmingham is the compulsory two-day refresher for anyone renewing an SIA Door Supervisor licence. It runs at our B90 centre, and you can apply to renew as soon as your results come through.

Total fee: £220 (£70 deposit to book, £150 at the centre on day one).

Why you need it

Since 1 April 2025, the SIA will not renew a Door Supervisor licence unless you hold a current refresher qualification. That applies whether you have worked continuously or taken a break.

You also need it if you qualified before April 2021 and never completed your top up training.

Don’t leave it until the last month

You can apply to renew from four months before your expiry date, and that window exists for a reason.

Your results normally take two to three weeks, and delays at the awarding bodies can make them longer. The SIA then runs its own checks before issuing the new licence. Work backwards from your expiry date and book the refresher four to five months ahead, and everything lands comfortably inside the window.

Leave it later and you risk a gap. The day your badge expires you cannot legally work front-line, not one shift, until the new one arrives.

Already expired? You can still take the refresher. The SIA lets you renew before your licence expires or up to three years after it expires. Call us and we will get you onto the earliest available date rather than the next convenient one.

Your two days

Day one starts with Emergency First Aid, a half-day session in the first half of the day. After that you bring your searching, safeguarding, terror threat awareness and spiking prevention up to date, then refresh your physical intervention skills. You sit multiple-choice exams and practical assessments at the centre. Both days are mandatory: miss part of the course and your certificate may not stand. Where you’ll train

The same refresher, without the trip to London.

Our Birmingham centre sits in the B90 postcode area, on the Shirley side of the city. From across the West Midlands you can drive in: M42 Junction 4 is minutes away and there’s parking on site.

If you’d rather travel in, Shirley station reaches Birmingham Moor Street or Snow Hill in 15 to 20 minutes, and the Stratford Road bus corridor runs frequent services into the city.

That makes it straightforward from Birmingham, Solihull, Coventry, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Redditch, Bromsgrove and across the wider West Midlands. And because it’s only two days, you can usually fit it around a working week without losing shifts.

What to bring

• Your current SIA licence card. We need it to confirm which refresher you need
• Original photo identification
• Two original proofs of address
• Your ACT Awareness and ACT Security certificates. Both courses are free on the ProtectUK website, and our ACT training page explains how to do them

Hold more than one licence?

You need a separate top up for each. If you hold a Security Guard licence as well, that’s a one-day refresher of its own. Call us and we’ll book both.

How to book

1. Choose a date that clears your renewal deadline with room to spare, and press Book
2. Enter your name, email and mobile, and pay £70 securely by card
3. Attend both days and settle any balance at the centre on your first morning

Once you pass, apply through the SIA licence application service. The renewal fee goes directly to the SIA and is not included in the course price.
