Call 020 8050 4108The SIA Door Supervisor Course in Manchester runs over six consecutive days at our centre on Stockport Road, M19. By the end of the week you’ll have finished the door supervisor training and the Emergency First Aid course and sat every exam, so once your results arrive the only thing left is your licence application.
One fee covers the whole qualification. You won’t pay anything extra for exams, certificates or first aid.
Payment: £100 deposit to book, £250 at the centre on day one.
When you compare prices, check whether first aid is included. If it is not, it becomes a second booking with its own fee and another day off work. Here it is already part of the week.
Day 1: First aid and working in private security. The week opens with a half-day of practical first aid: primary survey, CPR, using a defibrillator, the recovery position, choking, severe bleeding, shock and burns. Then come the rules of the industry: licensing law, relevant legislation, health and safety, fire procedures and emergency evacuation. You finish with how to report incidents and keep proper records.
Day 2: The door supervisor’s job. This day is about the job itself: searching people and their belongings, consent, refusing entry, ejections, the limits of reasonable force, spotting drug misuse and checking ID for age.
Day 3: Reading people and managing risk. You learn to profile behaviour, assess risk at the entrance, protect vulnerable people and support police, paramedics and fire crews during an incident.
Day 4: Handling conflict. This is the part of the job you will use most. You practise spotting early warning signs, using your voice and body language to calm situations, defusing aggression before it becomes physical, and writing up incidents afterwards.
Day 5: Physical intervention. Hands-on work comes only after the conflict training. It covers the law on using force, positional asphyxia and other restraint risks, disengagement techniques, low-level holds, escorting, and safe team intervention.
Day 6: Revision and exams. After mock papers and a revision session, you sit your exams.
Six days in a row is a long time to spend crossing Greater Manchester twice a day, so a simple journey matters. Our centre is on Stockport Road (the A6) in Manchester M19, in south Manchester.
Buses run along Stockport Road throughout the day, linking the centre with Piccadilly Gardens in the city centre and with Stockport in the other direction. Levenshulme station is also close by.
The centre is an easy trip from Levenshulme, Longsight, Gorton, Burnage, Rusholme, Fallowfield, Withington, Didsbury, Reddish, Heaton Chapel and Stockport.
A door supervisor licence also lets you work in security guarding. The reverse is not true, so the door supervisor licence gives you more choice when you are starting out.
Manchester has plenty of this work. Bars and clubs in the Northern Quarter, Deansgate, Spinningfields, Canal Street and the Oxford Road student area all need licensed door staff, especially at weekends.
Events add more shifts. The AO Arena, Co-op Live, the Etihad Stadium, Old Trafford and Manchester Central run busy calendars. There is also daytime and contract work at the Arndale, the Trafford Centre, Manchester Airport, MediaCityUK and the many construction sites around the city centre.
You must be 18 or over and have the right to work in the UK. Bring photo ID and two proofs of address dated within the last three months.
You don’t need any security experience. When you apply for your licence, the SIA will carry out a criminal record check. If you have lived abroad for six months or more in a row during the last five years, you will also need an overseas records check.
You must attend all six days. The SIA sets minimum contact hours for the qualification, and missing sessions can make your certificate invalid.
Your confirmation and joining instructions are emailed to you straight away. If you need a particular week, call 020 8050 4108.
After you pass, apply through the SIA licence application service. It can take up to eight weeks, so apply as soon as your results arrive. We also recommend the free ACT counter-terrorism course on the ProtectUK website. Our ACT training guide explains how to do it.

1. How much is the SIA Door Supervisor Course in Manchester?
£350 in total: £100 deposit to book, £250 at the centre on day one. That covers all four units, Emergency First Aid, your exams and both certificates.

Yes. No experience is needed, and the course is designed for beginners.
4. How long do results take?
Usually two to three weeks. Delays at the awarding bodies can make it longer, so we cannot promise an exact date.
