Emergency First Aid at Work Course in London

The Emergency First Aid course gives you the knowledge and practical skills to respond confidently to common medical emergencies at work.

Delivered over 1 day, the course covers the fundamental principles of emergency first aid, including assessing an incident, providing immediate assistance, performing CPR, helping an unconscious casualty, responding to choking and controlling bleeding.

It suits anyone who needs first aid skills at work, and it is the first aid course that SIA licence training for Door Supervisors and Security Guards needs.

What Is Emergency First Aid?

Emergency First Aid is the immediate assistance provided to someone who becomes injured or suddenly unwell before professional medical help is available.

The actions taken during the first few minutes of an emergency can be extremely important. This course helps learners understand how to assess an emergency, protect themselves and others, and provide appropriate initial first aid.

Training focuses on practical situations that may occur in workplaces, security environments and other public-facing settings.

Managing an Emergency Incident

One of the first responsibilities of a first aider is to assess the situation before providing assistance.

During the course, you will learn how to:

• Assess an emergency safely
• Identify potential hazards
• Protect yourself and other people
• Assess the casualty
• Prioritise first aid treatment
• Contact the emergency services when required
• Provide appropriate assistance while waiting for professional medical help

The aim is to help you respond in a calm, organised and effective manner.

CPR and Basic Life Support

Knowing how to respond when someone is unresponsive and not breathing normally is an essential first aid skill.

The course covers cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and basic life support, helping you understand the actions required during a life-threatening emergency.

Your trainer will explain the appropriate procedures and provide practical instruction so you can develop confidence in applying these skills.

Unconscious Casualties and Recovery Position

You will learn how to assess and assist an unconscious casualty.

Training covers recognising an unconscious casualty, checking their condition, monitoring breathing and using an appropriate recovery position where required.

You will also learn the importance of continuing to monitor the casualty until emergency medical assistance arrives.

Choking

A blocked airway can quickly become a serious medical emergency.

During your first aid training, you will learn how to recognise the signs of choking and understand the appropriate actions to take when assisting a casualty.

The course helps you understand when an obstruction may be mild or severe and when further emergency assistance is required.

Bleeding and Wounds

The course covers how to respond to wounds and bleeding safely and effectively.

You will learn about:

• Assessing wounds
• Controlling external bleeding
• Applying appropriate first aid
• Protecting yourself from exposure to bodily fluids
• Recognising when bleeding requires urgent medical assistance
• Monitoring the casualty

These skills can be particularly important in workplaces and public-facing environments where injuries may occur unexpectedly.

Shock and Seizures

You will learn how to recognise signs that may indicate shock and understand the immediate first aid actions that may be required.

The training also covers responding appropriately when someone experiences a seizure, including protecting the casualty from further injury and knowing when emergency medical assistance should be requested.

Practical First Aid Training

Emergency First Aid is a practical subject, so the course is designed to help you develop skills that can be applied in real situations.

Your trainer will demonstrate appropriate first aid procedures and give you the opportunity to practise relevant techniques.

Practical learning may include:

• Casualty assessment
• CPR
• Recovery position
• Responding to choking
• Managing bleeding
• Emergency scenario exercises

This combination of knowledge and practical training helps learners develop greater confidence when responding to emergencies.
